As a prominent geek, I understand the immense preparation that goes into a LAN party. All the supplies, snacks, decorations, and energy drinks are crucial, but nothing is more important than the games. So, here’s what I’m going to do: I’m going to give you some tips on how to throw one of the kickingest LAN parties every to hit your town. Whether you are a geek, a gamer, or somewhere in between, let’s get you ready for your LAN party.
Is there really any point to discuss the games? It’s your LAN party, you choose them. Just remember, you are not the only one playing them, so you want a good mix. A LAN party is also a great way to show off your taste in games. For example, if your friends are a bunch of Black Ops freaks, introduce them to something that’s actually good, like Dark Alliance or Little Big Planet. If not for their sake, do it for mine – help break the addiction of super-soldier games, please.

Next, you need your party supplies. This is mainly going to involve some snacks and drinks, but you can get really crazy and order loads of pizza or one of those behemoth six-foot grinders. Do whatever you feel like doing. You could follow the traditional gaming stereotype and get chips, Cheez-Its, or whatever, but these also lead to obesity. Instead, try switching it up with something a little healthier so you don’t feel bloated and malnourished at the end of the night. At my LAN parties, hummus is a huge hit that is packed with protein* and low negative nutrients.
*Note: Protein tricks your brain into feeling fuller. Instead of focusing on eating, you can focus on gaming. No more mid-level cramps or cravings, just the pure sensation of an all-night gaming session.
I’ve seen some awesome LAN party decorations during my years as a gamer. Some of my friends used to work at Gamestop and they’d bring home those huge cardboard standup posters of gaming characters that would be displayed during the release of a game. One party had an almost complete set of Final Fantasy IX characters. It was some rare Japan version, since Americans have yet to truly appreciate it as an amazing game.
